Scariest jobs

Post by Mark Heaps »

The scariest one for me was prepping them for a rail move. The searchlight had to be taken off the turret and put on the back decks otherwise it extended too far over the side of the railcar. Searchlight suspended on a crane and then stick your arm in between searchlight and turret to undo the electrical connections. Could you implicitly trust the crane-op ?

Scariest Chieftain job for me was bleeding the FIP with OM15 on a dark night in Canada after we changed it. The L60 was not the kindest of engines in that department. Note to self afterwards, take the fan drive belts off before starting up. The airflow nearly dragged me into the fan.
