4t Screw Jack - My introduction to 3D Modelling

Post by Dave Dibb (Armorpax) » Sun Sep 27, 2020 1:17 pm

Hi All,

With the deals on offer this year due to lockdown etc I have taken the plunge and invested in Fusion 360. Finally decided it was time to teach myself 3D modelling to tackle the parts I can't do the old fashioned way. As I have been asked for the 4t Screw Jack for the 250 series Halftracks this seemed like a good piece to start with. With the aid of a few glasses of Malbec the last few nights have resulted in a workable print. A friend ran a test print last night and all looks good so off to Shapeways for a couple of production masters. These will be used to make traditional resin moulds as a: we know these last (as my Frontline castings are still good nearly 30 years on) and b: the whole kit should retail for less than a single print with postage even on the cheapest material.

The next step may well be printers of our own, as we were planning before 2020 became the year it is, but will see if we do enough this way to warrant it.

Handle and base bracket will be made by hand when we have the printed jacks.

Best regards

Dave

Dave I just realised that as you are using Fusion 360 I can now send you the original archive file (.f3d) of that Chieftain search light I made for you. Please advise.

Vince

p.s. As there will be restrictions introduced to Fusion 360 Personal license users like me, I do not know if I would be able to do it after the end of this month.

Hi Vince,

Thanks but not sure how many more we would ever need and have a functioning mould and master. Your pattern saved me a lot of headaches!

Best regards

Dave

OK Dave.
In case I need to reduce the number of drawings that I have then I won't feel bad if I delete yours.

Great looking jack Dave. I say your modelling looks great. Screw threads are a challenge to model. That little jack would look even better from a resin printer. They are so affordable and make exquisite parts - esp for a master mold.
Best regards,
B
