The Most Secret Place On Earth

This comes highly recommended if you're interested in early tank development. It's the story of Elevedon and the formation and development of the first tank units, which were blooded at Flers-Courcellette in 1916.

I have read the book following your suggestion and think it would be the ideal gift to someone who needs to get an insight into why building a World War One Mark IV Tank is so interesting and worthwhile.
Thanks Steve
