First step in my Panther build.
I know it's a little out of sequence but I felt it was a good place to start with some corrections and a bit of detailing
image.jpeg
As supplied the idlers have overly thick reinforcing webs and the central boss does not stand proud enough.
My plan is to add a 6mm extension to the central boss and more in scale webs .
I have cast 2 white metal extensions for the boss which will be bonded and pinned to the idler, new 3 MM thick webs will then be bonded into slots cut into the webs.

The new boss extension and roughed out webs. The original webs have been thinned using a Dremmel and these will be blended into the new webs with some filler.
More to follow
Regards
Steve

Hi Kent,
Very nice idler and just what I need. Unfortunately my idlers will need work to get them somewhere near. As far as I know there are no aftermarket idlers available so modifying the supplied ones is the only option.

Central boss and 3mm webs added, the real webs are 15 mm thick so 3mm will be close enough.

Another shot showing the boss extension.
Final profiling and filling still to do

Hi Steve, that is starting to look like a huge improvement.
Heck of a lot of work though.

BTW, Will you also be modifying the slots in the outer edge?
I see from Kents version that the ends of the slots are squared off and the webs look to be a bit thinner.

Cheers
Tim

Hi Tim
I will see how the hub and spokes turn out first before going mad on the detail, your right the spokes are still a bit thick
(scale 18mm as opposed to actual 15mm) but the starting point was a long way out.

Steve

Here are my own idler wheels they need finishing off, I know there is work to be done on them before they are fit to be fitted.
