Re: Chieftain build by Phil Woollard.

Thank you Kevin for the nice words. Thing is I am on a learning curve also. As I don't have a filament 3D printer I am not sure what is possible or achievable. I suspect that there is quite a difference between what one can draw and what one can achieve in real life 3D printing.

Re: Chieftain build by Phil Woollard.

Could you show the centre of the disc with a divet or shaft or something please?
I guess this is so that you can locate the centre. If I had to make a small shaft what size would be good for you?

Phil

How does the disk brake look. Took a bit of head scratching. Again Stephen's diagram came to the rescue for some basic angles.

Re: Chieftain build by Phil Woollard.

OK. Will do them 55mm diameter. When you were doing the mockup of the disk brakes today what diameter were you using in the mockup? 60mm?

Also, what thickness shall I use for the braking disk?

Re: Chieftain build by Phil Woollard.

So I have been doing some research on the disk brakes. I had a look at the drawing Stephen posted when we needed some information on the exhaust box and from that drawing I estimated that it is about 70mm for 1/6 scale. So I had a look at my drawing from the side and drew a couple of circles. One is...

Re: Chieftain build by Phil Woollard.

the outside diameter was 14.47 (1/35 scale)
That makes it 84mm for 1/6 scale. Feels a bit too much. I was thinking more like 40mm.

Re: Chieftain build by Phil Woollard.

So I will leave the coupling to you?
I can give the disk brakes a go but still need to figure out how to do the piston housing. So it may take a bit. What diameter of disk brake were you thinking of doing?

Re: Chieftain build by Phil Woollard.

Phil I think I am nearly ready with the detailing. Only thing remaining is the coupling between the gearbox and engine. Hopefully should be finished tomorrow. I suggest you don't finalise those flexible pipes and disk brakes. Or maybe it's better not doing the coupling and leave it to you as you wil...

Re: Chieftain build by Phil Woollard.

Gearbox v24.jpg Phil Showing off progress so far of the detailing of the gearbox. I am having nightmares about drawing bolt heads!! Thankfully not much more bolt heads needed (famous last words!!!). Still a lot of detailing needs to be done. Have to admit that I am being drawn into a vicious circle...

Re: Chieftain build by Phil Woollard.

I'm not to sure how to fit the smoke box brackets, I have printed them out though.
I sent you two images (when I sent the stl files) and one of them was without the smoke box so that you could see exactly where the brackets go. I can resend it if you want.

Re: Chieftain build by Phil Woollard.

Phil

Another thing I have just realised! Is there space in the model to fit Ivano's engine and that gearbox? Would it be better to wait until you receive Ivano's engine before I do a lot of work on that gearbox?
