Re: Tiger Ausf E “F01” Gruppe Fehrmann

Hi Alastair

This is what I did:

https://www.armortek.co.uk/Forum3b/view ... &start=165

I also counterbored the covers for the bolts. In the photo that is a standard M3 hex bolt but I've been meaning to change them to M3 with one size smaller hex heads.

Re: Chieftain Prototype Build

Thanks for the info. I thought it would be used similarly to an aircraft APU but it seems I was wrong.

Re: Late Tiger 1 commission build by Phil Woollard

the tenons bit my palm as it snapped together so be careful.
Injured in the line of duty.

First time it snapped like that I said that no way I am getting my hands close to that so started using clamps instead.

Re: Tiger Ausf E “F01” Gruppe Fehrmann

I have studied all the Tiger 1 build logs that are available and many times I forget where I have seen something. I have learned a lot from past builders and they still help me when I get stuck. After all that is the idea behind the forum. We learn from each other. If you have a mill then it should ...

Re: Chieftain Prototype Build

Stephen or anybody in the know. Does the donkey engine need to keep running after the main engine has started?

Re: Tiger Ausf E “F01” Gruppe Fehrmann

Do you mean something like this:
Tiger 031.JPG
Yes it is doable and other modelers have done it. Suggest using a pillar drill or something to keep the countersunk bit straight. On the 2017 Tiger 1 two of those screws are shorter than 10mm.

Re: Lazy Susan - turntable

Those pressed steel ones are ideal for what Alastair needs and they are not expensive at all.

That website also shows the aluminium bearings like the ones in the kit and was surprised at the maximum load rating. Quite a lot.

Those first "drives" are awesome - when she first moves like a tank!
Yes Bob, I have to agree.

Andy

I tried to upload the two drawings but it seems the forum does not accept PDFs. So if you want, send me a PM with your email address and I will send them to you that way.

Re: Lazy Susan - turntable

Hi Alastair Below is an Armortek photo of the 2017 Tiger 1. As you can see they are using a lazy susan and a large spacer over it. Both these items were part of the kit used for the turret turn mechanism but I don't know how much weight that bearing can support. 25299679_10155977759658792_2404308445...

Re: Vince's Tiger 1 late variant 2017

Been doing some things on the turret roof. Made the simulated flat headed bolts and a shallow groove for the weld seam. Tiger 584.JPG For the bolt pattern, as no particular accuracy was required, I just drew the pattern in CAD and taped it to the turret roof. Tiger 582.JPG Then using a pointed tool ...

Re: Cupola Arm and Hatch

Hi Allan If I remember correctly, to attach the arm to the centre of the hatch one needs a M3 countersunk screw and nut. Having said that, when I blinged that part I used a M2.5 screw from the bottom of the hatch and a home-made nut at the top. As you said, there are no indications how to attach the...

Re: Help in locating page in tiger1.info

During the last couple of days I have been searching for a good photo of the actual position of these bolt heads. In the above diagram it shows them exactly between the turret weld seam but in the Jentz & Doyle book (page 149) it shows them in a slightly different position closer to the weld seam. F...

Re: Heaven. 1944.

Pz4 is my second favourite after the Tiger 1. I guess it's from my childhood days when I used to do Airfix models and used to play with them until they broke. Then I would try to convince my father to buy me a new one. He was more into airplanes and ships.
