Re: Steve,s Chieftain #46

That's really very good 8) I guessed there'd be some work to do, wasn't expecting lug movements though. :o I liked Stephen's version of the nose job, though I don't want to start taking too much metal from my newly fitted armor plate just yet. :( It's a big lump to keep lifting in and out and it'll ...

Re: Steve,s Chieftain #46

Mine's a joy to handle at the moment, easy to take to the garden back and forth for a good grind. Thought I nearly took a door frame out flitting from the garage Sunday. I'd like to see more of your nose job Steve. My front end's looking like a trout pout at the moment especially with the extra full...

Re: Exhaust box

Stephen, Richard has a point that the exhaust box pictured from certain angles does look angled and not perpendicular with the ground level. But your factory drawings are I suppose the grail that we all want to achieve. The annoyance is that if you do achieve the correct alignment of the exhaust box...

Re: Exhaust box

Your maybe right Richard, there's evidence that changes were made on later Mk's, mountings etc. Maybe the vent plate and box is a different shape on other Mk's.

Re: 00 FD 96 John's Main Contender

You can say that again Steve, The KT boys don't know how lucky they are having to tickle front plates by a few thou.   Chieftain demands, googles, gloves and hefty swipes of a course grit angle grinder. Found a dozen 10 BA bolts to check to "look" on the vent plate. Partisans fitted ...

Re: Exhaust box

When I saw Steve N's cut on the side plates of the Exhaust box, I thought surly not something else. I'll probably be berated for saying there's not much "right" with the exhaust box is there. It looks ok at first, then you look harder and words fail, how can it be so wrong. If I was cut...

Re: 00 FD 96 John's Main Contender

It does make you appreciate Phil's guideing work and the other Chieftains builds. 8) The amount of work required to put it together is certainly not novice. There's the physical aspect too. It's heavy and awkward, I've just spent a couple of hours wrestling and filing the front casting on the floor ...

Re: 00 FD 96 John's Main Contender

I've continued a bit with the exhaust box, It's becoming a model all of it's own. Each time I look at it there's something more I could have added/changed to make it that little bit better. (coulda woulda shoulda). The worry comes that so many changes to the aspect of the box could change the aspect ...

Re: 00 FD 96 John's Main Contender

Got a few jobs done this week. Soft aluminum 2mm wire wrap makes up the conduit. Thin aluminum shim used to make up the P clips supported by 1.4mm studs. Filed a lump of aluminum to make the sprung loaded gun clamp latch. Spring coming from a disposable lighter, dress makers pins holding it together...
