Re: A Chequered Chieftain at #10

Well that's what I'd say is "Thinking outside the exhaust box"
Bewildering work Richard. 8) I don't think you'll get many takers on that line of modification.

Re: Waste Disposal Hatch

Its not bad once painted, a metal hatch for a metal tank, though it does scrape the paint when it opens and closes. (working on it).

But then it's just like a British Leyland car of the time.

Re: 00 FD 96 John's Main Contender

With the front armor casting in place, I have glued and pinned the nose plate made earlier to join the casting and front lower armor together. It's time to try and form the curved shape right at the front. With the majority of the shaping on the nose done. Took a break from it and had look at the mi...

Fantastic work Phil, but won't all this engine detail stuff muffle the sound? :?

Re: 00 FD 96 John's Main Contender

Thanks Vince, I haven't brought many fasteners in the past, using the supplied fasteners usually. Oddments being brought though Ebay or the forum. I actually used my old apprentice spanners to gauge what I might want, they should have given a physical guide to what should have turned up. The annoyin...

Re: 00 FD 96 John's Main Contender

Let the force be with you Charles, you'll need it. and a good flap wheel too. A couple of weeks ago I ordered 120 x 10BA x 1/2 bolts. I need them to finish the exhaust box off. The rest of the bolts were for the deck covers and plate retainers. The first lot went "missing" in the post, When the repl...

Re: Waste Disposal Hatch

Sounds lovely Mark

Last thing to make is the weather guard. To give some strength cut it out with pins for easy mounting.
Bent it round a socket out of the tool box.

It'll look better cleaned up and painted.

Re: X51 Stickleback

Your right it is a superb model but the museum quality comes from the builder not the manufacturer, I have no doubt that it will museum quality when you have finished it. 8) The build of the water tight chamber WTC is pretty good, though I did think quality of the wiring could be better. Electrical ...

Re: Steve,s Chieftain #46

Thats a very clever idea Steve 8) , I opted for the thinner nyloc nut and a shroud. A skinny blighter to make. I think I'll let you get a little head and poach your ideas :P

Re: Waste Disposal Hatch

Vincent, I'm sure it's 3mm high give or take an inch. I'd be no good at cad I have a habit of missing out decimal places, words, symbols, that and falling a sleep in front of a screen if I loose interest. Zzzzz And Phil If the George the lll's get that big it would be understandable why Nuke suits w...

Re: Waste Disposal Hatch

Where indeed, since the bogies are not quite to scale and I'm not sure of the hull height under the mud guards. It's going to be pin the tail on the donkey time. :D I've fashioned a hinge, and step drill cutter is at the ready. I made the waste hatch inside diameter 20mm and reckoned to use the 20mm...

Re: 00 FD 96 John's Main Contender

Richard I'll not be going to the same detail that you have undertaken on the exhaust box, so I'll be spending time else where. A dry fit of the fenders/mudguards was fun, more holes in the tin plate than in the front casting. A tapped 3mm hole in the furthest hole needed.   The mid s...

Re: Chieftain Build No.17

Sorry about that Mark  I feel your pain.
I've got the fenders/mud guards on quick release retainers at the moment because they have to come off so frequently. And the exhaust box drops off at the snap of the fingers. Can't wait until it can do other tricks.
