Re: Tiger 131 In South Wales

Hi All, Slow progress but still moving forward. Decided to dismantle the turret and get some etch primer onto the turret parts then to start getting the weld simulations done. I have also tried to do some impact damage to the pivot lifting lug on the mantlet not sure how this is going to work out ye...

Re: Milling Machine

Hi Greg, I started off with a small milling machine like the wm12 from warco but soon found out that it was just to small so I upgraded to the wm16, I found this to be just the right size machine for building armortek models. Also warco has a brilliant backup service. I have since changed the wm16 f...

Re: Tiger 131 In South Wales

Hi Simon. Many thanks for your kind words much appreciated. I have had a better week on the tiger than I expected so that has put my mind in a better place, hopefully in a few weeks I can strip the turret back to individual pieces and get them painted then the turret should start to take shape. Chee...

Re: Vince's Tiger 1 late variant 2017

Hi Vince,

Great build you have there and have enjoyed following your updates. Seeing your progress has helped to inspire me to get on with my own tiger build.

Look forward to your next instalment.

Re: Tiger 131 In South Wales

Hi Simon, Many thanks for your encouragement, I have lost my mojo over the past few months on this build so to keep going I just set myself small objectives to get done by the end each week. I have finished all of the upgrades to the gun barrel so I have now moved onto the vision ports on the side o...

Re: Tiger 131 In South Wales

Hi All, I have been working on the mantlet and details on the gun barrel since the last update. As regards to the mantlet I have been doing a bit of chopping here and there to try and improve the the look of it as it looks a fair bit thicker than than the one on tiger 131 at the museum, that's just ...

Re: Tiger 131 In South Wales

Hi All, It's been a while since my last update because of a unexpected trip to A and E the Tuesday before the model show at Bovington which I was planning on visiting but instead I spent the next two recovering, this getting old can be a real pain at times. On the weekend it was time to say goodbye ...

Tanks for sale

After a few changes in my personal life, I am considering selling some of my tanks. I have for sale the following: CENTURION MK6 LR This tank is heavily upgraded by myself (through fantastic help via the forum) and the build details can be found on the forum under "novice Centurion tank builder". It...

Re: Tiger 131 In South Wales

Vince, Steen, Many thanks for the observation and photos, I had completely missed that cut out on the mantlet. Today's work has been on the turret front plate cutting the ends to the right angles to match the sides of the turret. Also I was having a problem with the top edge of this plate as it did ...

Re: Tiger 131 In South Wales

Hi All, I have decided to make a start on the turret so the first thing I have done is to mark out the areas where I am going cut out some groves for the weld simulations, also to remove some material to try and improve the shape of the parts. It's nice to be back in my comfort zone again. Regards D...

Re: Vince's Tiger 1 late variant 2017

Hi Vince,

I have had a quick look at some of the turret details last night and I think the turret ventilator on the late tigers is different to the early tigers. However I will keep your offer in mind when I get closer to this part of the build.

Cheers

Re: Tiger 131 In South Wales

Mark, Robert and Simon, Many thanks for your kind words much appreciated. I have been struggling to get myself back into this tank building hobby but when those tracks went on it gave me a big lift in confidence, there is still some work to do on the hull but I can now start tinkering with the turre...

Re: Tiger 131 In South Wales

Hi All, I have taken some inspiration from Mark J. Radick tiger build (hope you don't mind) with regards to the spare track links on the front plate of tiger131, I have cut out some holes in the track horns. I found doing the top row quite easy to do but the lower row were quite difficult to cut out...
