Re: In memory of Gill Watkins
Oh dear me how sad. I have not been active with Armortek for some years now but I bought an Early Tiger 1 and a Sherman tank from Armortek. I made a visit to the open day many years ago when Mark and Gill were in charge. In those times I spoke a lot to Gill and Mark. I really enjoyed building and ow...

Stephen, I think you might find that the problem with your model could just be temperature related. I am not sure of the temperature range specifications for the electronics in our models but I certainly had a fault develop whist the Tiger was in the hot sun at Peter Shaw's one day. I had parked it ...

Horrible Damp Weather and Models
Just a word of warning to those of you who Keep your models in sheds and garages over cold and damp winters. I keep mine in a precast concrete garage which does tend to get a little damp in this cold wet weather, and then quite hot if we ever get a summer. I wanted to give the Tiger a run as it hasn...

Hi, when building my Sherman I designed a smoker which would put out a trickle of smoke then a belch as the throttle was opened. You can see that the design is base on a rotating air valve worked by a servo in parallel with the throttle. At "idle there is just a 3mm hole from the fan through into th...

The cam idea is certainly a good idea to get the different speeds for recoil and recuperation but there are two problems to overcome with the larger and heavier metal barrels, one is that a strong spring will be needed to move the barrel quickly and also the motor must be strong enough to wind the c...

Hi, Here is my attempt at a recoil system with smoke. http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb155/Allan-Richards/Arm%20Tiger%20Build/Turret1.jpg The main gun recoils on a cross head assembly you can see and the servo to the rear with the crank assembly is a sail winch servo, which rotates 360 degrees o...

Robert, Thanks for the kind comments. I did think about addng copper to the tips but I decided against it because I couldn't find detils of how it was done. Also many WWI props were fabric covered which I didn't want to do as it looks a rather rough finish. SE5 or Fokker props are really quite expen...

Thanks guys. It was quite e bit of work but I did most of the carving with a spoke shave - a rather old fashioned wood working tool nowadays. I tried a surform but it created such a rough surface it made finish sanding a nightmare. The prop is made from mahogany which is a very easy wood to work wit...

A Slight Deviation from Tanks and Armour
At War and Peace last year I saw a wooden propeller for sale which I really liked, but it was a little too expensive. Surfing the net showed that propellers were expensive so I decided to carve a 1:1 scale one myself.. I found a rough set of plans on the internet as a starter. http://i206.photobucke...

Gill Sounds like you and I have the same affliction, it "got" me on Chrismas Eve too and has been a most persistent basket, not letting up at all. Its the cough stopping me sleeping that is most irritating. Lets hope for some relief for the New Year celebrations. If not then I'll definately be bette...

Are colds complusory for Brits at Xmas?
I'm sitting here monitoring the progress of various builds through eyes like P*^s holes in the snow, a hanky under my nose, a throat like a bottom of a parrot's cage and the worst cough I've ever had. This is the fifth year in a run I've had a cold when off over Xmas, its got to be something to do w...
