Re: Tiger Ausf E “F01” Gruppe Fehrmann

Hi Stephen Many thanks for the 'heads up'. Looks like this image was taken a little later when it had been pushed off the track? The available views now give the full driver's side... pity no one stood the other side! I suspect that was too difficult given the trees, the ground conditions and 'natur...

Re: Tiger Ausf E “F01” Gruppe Fehrmann

Hi All, Update 19 Jun 20 I designed a replacement tow hitch and also got it printed by Shapeways in Nylon 12 (Versatile Plastic) as I wanted it to be tough and durable. This will be the material of choice for any non-structural external detail. If we get into structural parts (perhaps with the new r...

Re: What's all this about colour?

Hi Stephen, Very interesting post. You have not mentioned 'scale effect'... the fact that a small scale model will need to be painted in a lighter 'colour' if it is too look correct close-up. I am a long way off painting F01 but am interested to know if this scale effect is not an issue at 1/6. Alas...

Re: Tiger Ausf E “F01” Gruppe Fehrmann

Hi All, Update: 8 Jun 20 Not much to report on this thread as I spent much of the last couple of weeks getting the basic engine completed (see HL230 engine build thread). However, the first item was a dry fit of my custom-made idler adjustment capture plates. 20200524_155548-doc.jpg Then a test fit ...

Re: Build of Ivano's HL230 kit

Hi Martin, Sure, go ahead. :) It will useful for viewers to see two approaches. Please ensure that you indicate where we differ if you are building a P30 rather than a P45. Do not worry if you get ahead of me as I will be doing some finessing and subtle upgrades where reasonable Although Ivano's kit...

Re: Build of Ivano's HL230 kit

Hi All, Stage 2 Attach the outer detail ‘plates’ and ends. I used 2hr epoxy to give me the ability to move things around. Once in position tacks of thin CA were applied. Parts were ‘back-filled’ with sheet styrene and gap filled with thick CA as required. The position of the side plates was dictated...

Re: Build of Ivano's HL230 kit

Hi All, Useful photographic resource for HL 230: Panther Project, Volume 2: Engine and Turret (The Research Squad). This contains many images of a staged restoration of the HL 230 P30 engine for a Panther Ausf A. Useful to see what a clean and 'new' engine looks like. Based on the time and effort ex...

Build of Ivano's HL230 kit

Hi All, As requested I am starting a thread to show a detailed step-by-step build of Ivano Costantini's HL 230 TRM P45 kit. This will be fairly slow as I will upload progress as and when I have completed a particular stage. There will probably be a break part way through as I am doing the build only...

Hi All,

I am putting together a detailed build log for Ivano's HL230 engine kit. I can create a thread for this if there is any interest... please respond if you would like to see it. :)

Hi All, Update 22 May 20 Problem... drilling vertically into the rear plate without mishap (I broke a drill doing this earlier) Solution... use a B&D Workmate and a smaller mill/drill. :) 20200506_152048-doc.jpg 20200506_153507-doc.jpg Success.... 8) Next job...machining the rear plate to add the re...

If you not able to source your Fiefel system from David Brady then I can make up a set using parts from my Tiger 131 kit that I do not require.

Hi All, Update 6 May 20 Change of pace... the turret. I decided to take a short break from the Wanne and do something with the Turm. I have a late Tiger mantlet which has the right extra thickness but only one hole for the monocular gun sight... I drilled and bored out a second hole. This will event...

Upgrade Parts

Hi All, I have been designing a set of upgrade parts for my F01 build. I have just received parts from Shapeways that are too big for my home 3D printer. See below for a 'glove' I have designed to fit over the front 'shields'' that protect the final drives. These gloves add extra thickness, revise t...
