Re: Tom's FAMO Build

Bob, I get my paints from Industrial Finishes in my area. Any automotive paint distributor for PPG will have the paint. I use a product call PPG Essential. That name defines all the products needed to mix the paint properly. The standard mix is 6 parts paint to one part hardener and one part activat...

Yes, the winch works perfectly. I did not have the issues others have had.

Re: Adam's Panzer III build

Hi Adam, I followed your lead and bought the same paint booth you have. What a great addition to the shop. Much better than painting outside. In the pictures you will see a turntable (lazy Suzanne) I bought on ebay. Really great for getting to all sides of parts. It is 11" in diameter. I bought some...

Re: Tom's FAMO Build

Stephen, Thanks for the kind remarks. I am enjoying these builds. After building 1/8th scale steam locomotives all my life , it is nice to have something that takes months not years to complete. I acquired a paint spray booth so I can paint indoors year round. What a pleasure to use. Here are a few ...

Re: Tom's FAMO Build

I decided to work on some of the track parts after seeing posts from Florian and Phil about problems with the mounting screws not seating correctly. Since I have a milling machine, I developed a setup for milling a flat at the proper angle so the button head screws will seat properly. IMG_2697.JPG T...

Detail parts ammo crates

Hi Everyone, Thought I would share this with all of you. I just bought and received some ammo crates and sand bags I found on Ebay sold by a company called monkey rabbit studio. I was a bit skeptical but bought them anyway as the pictures looked good. These are very nice items and arrived quickly. I...

Re: Tom's FAMO Build

Adam, I actually researched your paint booth after I saw it months ago in one of your earlier posts. I passed on it at that time but now with the weather we have here in Oregon I may have to get one. My issue is it is so big I am not sure where I would put it or how to vent it. I may have to punch a...

Re: Tom's FAMO Build

I now have all the road wheels, idler wheels and drive wheels ready to paint. The are 512 rivets in the wheels!! I find the locktite does not hold the rivets in the thinner sections of the wheels like out by the rim. In the thicker sections like down by the hub locktite works great. So I counter sun...

Re: Adam's Panzer III build

Hi Adam, I too had to remove some metal to get those doors to fit right. Fortunately I have a small mill and lathe I bought specifically to build Armortek models. I highly recommend the line of machines offered by Little Machine Shop https://littlemachineshop.com/. I have had the machines for about ...

Re: Tom's FAMO Build

Time for another installment of the FAMO build. IMG_2658.JPG I know this is probably over kill but I installed a star washer on the end of the torsion assembly. I super glued it to the end of the rod because there is no access to the bearing on the frame due to the frame spreader tube. I installed t...

Re: Tom's FAMO Build

Hello again, I got all the parts in the previous post painted and assembled. I have been working on the suspension parts and thought you guys might be interested in how I set the angle on the suspension arms. I used the same procedure on the Panzer and it worked great. After completing and locktitin...

Tom's FAMO Build

I finished the Panzer so it is on to the FAMO. Building and painting during the winter months here in Oregon can be challenging. The work shop can get pretty cold making it rather uncomfortable to be in there for very long and painting is impossible. I like to paint each part before assembly so I ha...

Re: Tom's Panzer lll Ausf L

The batteries are Duracel 12-20 C. ( 12v 20 ah) I used 10 lb Velcro to hold them together and to the floor. Everything else is held in place with standard Velcro.
