Re: Tom's King Tiger Build 2019 Hull 53

Hi Allan, I applied a coat of MIG tan for 3 tome camo over the entire model then applied a coat of MIG brown wash for German dark yellow diluted down some. Both coats were partially removed while still wet with a dry lint free rag. Final weathering streaks, rust etc were done with Bragdon weathering...

Re: Tom's King Tiger Build 2019 Hull 53

Hello All, IT IS DONE. Finished painting and weathering the KT. Got all the option paks working too. Very impressive model. Only problem I am having is keeping the tracks on while making turns especially in reverse. The tracks climb off the sprocket when I turn. Works great in a straight line. The t...

Re: Tom's King Tiger Build 2019 Hull 53

Hi Vince,
I am not a tank expert but my opinion is that on the prototype those rivets were actually bolts used to jack the vent up and down. Maybe some of the tank experts on the board can clarify further. I just build them, I can't explain them.

Re: Tom's King Tiger Build 2019 Hull 53

Back with the turret report. Got it all together but not without some......adjustments. I had an issue with the right side of the turret. It was .140 higher than the left side. I managed to get the part in the mill and take off .140 from the bottom edge. Some more filing and fitting on several other...

Re: Tom's King Tiger Build 2019 Hull 53

Hi Phil, I had the same problem with tensioning the tracks. I increased the angle a couple degrees too. Mostly to compensate for future sagging of the suspension. At present my tensioner is set at maximum and it is barely enough. If I take a track set out I can not rejoin the tracks. Works OK for no...

Re: Tom's King Tiger Build 2019 Hull 53

Hi Guys, A few pics of the latest progress. I have everything below the turret done, painted and weathered. Applied a few welds too. This is my first try at three color camo. Now it's on to the turret. The parts are big and heavy. Curious to see what the difficulties are with this part of the build....

Re: FAMO radio setup

My FAMO has the same issues you are having. I had to max out the trim to get the wheels to be straight at the center position. As for right and left turning, you have it setup correctly. My FAMO does not like to turn. The tracks bind unless I make really wide turns. Seems like the slot in the tracks...

Re: Tom's King Tiger Build 2019 Hull 53

Hi Phillip, The fires are just a few miles from me at this time. No evacuation order yet.... Smoke is so heavy you can hardly breath. Can't work in the shop because the smoke is so hazardous. The high winds have calmed down and that is helping get the fires under control. Had a scare the other night...

Re: Greetings from new member and a question

Hi Jarle,
Welcome to the forum.
I would use the same M4 x 8 cap screw.
You might want to take a look at my build blog and consider doing what I did instead of using CKO115 at all.
We are all here to help if you have any further questions.

Re: Tom's King Tiger Build 2019 Hull 53

Took delivery of my new 11" lathe and Mill. Both Precision Mathews products. Big improvement in size and quality from my previous machines. IMG_2871.JPG IMG_2872.JPG Been working on the side skirts and other attachments. I want to get everything below the turret done before starting the turret. It i...

Re: Tom's King Tiger Build 2019 Hull 53

Hi Guys, Been working on a variety of things. First off I didn't like the way Armortek has the front and back half of the idler just glued together so I drilled and tapped the front half of the idler for 3mm bolts then drilled and counter bored the back half. It won't come apart now. IMG_2870.JPG I ...

Re: Tom's King Tiger Build 2019 Hull 53

Hi Brenton, Nice job fitting the rear hull plate. Yes I think the rear hull plate should sit on the side plates like you have done. I did not remove the material below the side frames only because the part is too big to fit in my bench mill and getting the angle correct would be difficult too. You d...

Re: Tom's King Tiger Build 2019 Hull 53

Robert, I use an automotive body filler sold a NAPA made by Martin Senour paints called pro grip. It comes in an 8oz pouch and is a two part product. Nice because it is a small pouch. Most body fillers com in big cans and you can mix small quantities. I use it to fill large and small holes, flat hea...
