Re: Marcus's 25 pounder

Further work on the gun laying systems. Added the ranging cone gear hand wheel and the elevation scale plate, the hand wheel was turned on my drill from stock aluminium bar. The elevation scale plate was cut from a aluminium tube with the ribs and range scale epoxied on: https://live.staticflickr.co...

Re: Marcus's 25 pounder

The last styrene bits have been replaced: New spade wings: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/47934479331_5579d22d89_b.jpg Since I do not have a milling machine (yet) I looked at alternative ways to turn small parts. I tried clamping stock brass rods into a drill (secured in a drilling column) what...

Re: Marcus's 25 pounder

Thanks Simon! The trunnions are connected to the gun cradle with a large box structure:[ https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/40880760913_ba561b39b5_b.jpg The front part is not flat but tapered and of welded construction: https://live.staticflickr.com/7332/11208449113_c268fcf598_z.jpg The box has a c...

Re: Marcus's 25 pounder

Finally some time to do some building! I started with some small things to get back in the saddle. I have now almost replaced all the styrene bits with brass ones. The mounting brackets of the slide cap: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/32896953347_727a9ee406_b.jpg After these came together quite...

Re: Hunting tigers with Pheasants

It seems there will be a 25 pounder anti tank gun available from Armortek this summer!!!
That can only be a 25/17 pounder or Pheasant!! Yay!!!

Re: Jeffs 25 pounder

Metal beating, carpenters skills, leather craft: what's next??
Before we know it you will have made tiny cigarettes for the crew to smoke after the fire mission......
Unbelievable!!

I was impressed when I saw your shaped/angled reinforcement strips, but I am in awe with that spade box..
Metal beating indeed!!

Re: Jeffs 25 pounder

These photos just show that these 'kompact' kits can be as much a challenge and impressive as their larger (tracked) cousins!! Details are generally smaller but are in plenty supply all over the kit and: everything is visible. Tugging at my leash to get building again.... Keep those parts coming Jef...

Re: Jeffs 25 pounder

I have to agree with that...... My curse is: I travel a lot and so have too much time to ponder over details :? When I am finally building, common sense normally kicks in (I do get carried away sometimes(....)). That video is fun! Have you tried it with the lights out: is there some kind of f...

Re: Jeffs 25 pounder

Oeps, I meant No.22 scope, that one is without dials! The No. 29 scope does have a knurled dial/knob on the top, and the No.41 has three. I work too hard, I definitely have to start building again...... No.22, with storage tube: https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7835/33083355348_14cba3bea7_o.jpg No.29,...

Re: Jeffs 25 pounder

You have been busy! The Armortek case is much to small, possibly patterned on the smaller No.29 sighting scope. The No.29 actually needed a spacer tube to fit into the sight clamp. The case for the no.29 scope however did not have the wider section at the lid, the scope did not have any protruding k...

Re: Jeffs 25 pounder

Awesome Jeff! Even the plungers to keep the catches locked are there (at least their housing/tubes, but I assume the spring and plunger will be in there soon)!
Accidentily also finished my platform securing levers, will post those soon!

Re: curved bracket(s) on shield 17 Pounder

I have seen a photograph somewhere where they used to grab these gun shield loops/handles when manhandling the gun. One man dangling on the barrel and two guys pushing the gun shield holding on to the 'handles'. The 17 pdr was a heavy beast and lacked any handholds. But might as well be used that wa...
