Re: Wing & Wheels, Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome 19 May

A good day out even if I got lost both on the way in and the way out! My Mark IV behaved all day and had no re-occurance of the overheating issue from last year. Not bad considering three months ago it was doing a bathtub impression! IMG_20190519_125148.jpg IMG_20190519_154222.jpg DSC_0042a.jpg

Re: Mk.IV Meets Garret

Looks like it was a nice day out. The reaction to your Mark IV is pretty similar to my Village fete experience last year, lots of kids wanting to touch (and in a couple of cases kick!) the metal monster.

Re: Photographic Perspective

I totally agree that getting down to 'scale height' can change the way the model appears. I have taken two approaches when taking photos, one is to photograph the tanks as a model so the elevated perspective is fine, the other is the close up 'scale effect' shot and for that an inline or lower angle...

Re: Mark IV No. 35

Chris, it's a fair point as the weight of the big batteries could well be what pushed the load factor on the wiring to literally melting point. They were an experiment after the regular batteries just didn't last and if I could abandon them I probably will. It could be that in the short run scenario...

Re: Mark IV No. 35

Tank update: After making sure everything had fully dried out I reconnected all the electronics and the batteries and then the moment of truth... Everything works! (Phew). Both tracks move and the sound system was in full voice. My controller also got a soaking but after a thorough dry out it appear...

Re: Mark IV No. 35

Update - I have finshed the repair work on my shed/workshop and everything appears to have dried out now. I have taken everyone's advise regarding the electronics boxes and they have been enjoying the delights of central heating to make sure they are moisture free. Thanks to Adrian Harris I have rep...

Duxford Grant*

While I was at Duxford for the Tornado farewell my chosen 'spot' was near the Land Warfare Hall. Waiting for the crowds to disperse I did a circuit and took these of the M3 they have there.

hors de combat

Well No.35 is very much out of action. In an escalation of the long standing issues I have had with my Mark IV being a battery eater at the last show I took it to (and admittedly ran it for longer and far further than normal) the wires from the batteries to the control module melted together and sho...

Re: Amiens 100 - Bovington, 8 August

Proper update this time. Another fun day out at Bovington, nowhere near as crowded as a show day but much more pleasent weather than Tankfest! My thanks to Chris for organising it all and to everyone else for making the long car trip worth it. Start line 19/2018 DSC_0271b.jpg DSC_0056a.jpg Mr & Mrs ...

Re: Real or fake

It's from Modelcollect's 'Fist of War' fanciful 1946 range. They have done a number of 'paper panzers' and then let their imagination run riot with walker tanks etc. (All in 1/72). I have the 1/72 version of the P1000 'Ratte' sitting in a rather large box waiting to be built and I will probably add ...

Re: Mark IV No. 01 - "Kathleen"

Can't speak for others but even after I loctited the track fasteners (didn't first time, lost a fair few as a result) I was still able to remove them just by applying friction to the bolt enough to allow it to break free. I have had some that would not release not matter ehaty but ususaly it is one ...

Re: Mark IV No. 01 - "Kathleen"

No, you need the space to get the tensioner in and out and three plates is too little room (ask me how I know that). I remove three each side of the join which might be overkill but it works for me as I prefer the extra room to work.

I only showed up for the planes but it was great to see the public enthusiasm for the tanks. Also nice to see you got to sit in one of the Austers again.
