Re: Steve does another Elefant

The panels are all bolted in position as per the real thing. The Zimmerit is a mix of tile adhesive and brown acrylic paint, For application I use a s...

Re: Steve does another Elefant

To add a bit of difference and interest I have decided to fit my Elefant with the split and hinged rear hatches. From what I have read there were only 4 Elefants modified in this way and at least 1 was in the headquarters company of Schwere panzerjager 653. D5340373-AF95-4C28-A92E-341D638C2FDD.jpeg ...

Re: Steve does another Elefant

The rear hull extension is now attached, I’ve added zimmerit to the difficult to reach areas .
Torch cut marks and rebates for the weld detail have been added.

Tow cable brackets have been added plus rebates for the weld detail.

I’ve added a couple of extra fasteners to the rear plate to prevent any movement, weld will added to the outside joint and I wanted to prevent this from cracking.

Re: Steve does another Elefant

Added the remains of the weld after the jack mounts were repositioned from the front plate to the rear plate. Big thanks to Phil for his suggestion to use templates to achieve the desired effect.

A bit of texture has also been added to the front plate.

Re: Steve does another Elefant

Hi Phil
Good idea, I will make up a couple of dummy jack bases to act as templates.

Re: Steve does another Elefant

Sunday’s update,
68FC4716-B675-450D-9B99-40E70A1D593D.jpeg
More detail added and the Zimmerit is now done on the front end.
I need to find a way to simulate the remains of the welds on the horizontal plate, were the jack stowage used to be.

Look at the thickness of the armour with the additional plate added

No additional armour on the lower plate
The cone headed bolts securing the additional armour will be added after the zimmerit has been applied.

Re: Steve does another Elefant

Hi Steen. The tracks were etch primed using Upol acid etch grey the lightly coated in Halfords red oxide followed by a dusting of Halfords Matt black. A further dusting of dark metallic gray and when dry a wash with Vallejo dark brown. I am very pleased myself with the way they turned out. Regards S...

The tracks came out nice after a coat of primer and a couple of coats of paint.
Time to start the upper hull.
