The Model

The model has been thoroughly researched by reference to technical data, books and our own photographs of surviving Shermans in the UK, and France. We chose to model a mid-production M4A3 as it represents one of the most commonly used versions and appeared in numerous theatres throughout WWII. This Sherman carries the 75mm cannon, and features the all welded hull, with the original 56 degree sloped glacis plate.

The model is an accurate 1/6th scale replica of the M4A3 and is 39” long x 17” wide x 18” high. Weight is approximately 70kgs (150lbs).

The Sherman shares the same motor arrangement as our Tiger I, i.e. 2 x 24v, 280w electric motors that deliver 4.7Nm of torque. This provides a top speed of circa 4mph and enables the model to climb 60 per cent gradients, just like the real tank. A micro-processor controlled engine sound unit is available as is a smoke generator.

We can also provide a blank firer that discharges 6 rounds per magazine. This provides a legal, safe and inexpensive, method of providing a big bang.

The kit comes fully-machined for bolt-together assembly. It is designed for those with limited engineering experience and may be assembled in 50 – 100 hours.

With each new subject we manufacture we look to surpass the quality of our previous offerings (and customers are universally agreed that the quality so far has been pretty darn good!) The Armortek Sherman M4A3 is a very special model and features more accurate and complex pressure die cast parts than even the Tiger. For example each track section comprises no less than 7 separate pieces – just like the full size tank. In addition, to create an authentic scale copy of the Vertical Volute Spring Suspension system, we are tooling up to produce the Bogie Frames, Radius Arms, Wheels and Suspension Arms as fully machined precision aluminium castings. In addition to the above the Turret, Differential Case, Idler Wheel, Inner Mantlet and Mantlet are all aluminium castings all of which contribute to making the Armortek Sherman a classic model of the highest quality. Castings include excellent detail, including manufacturers marks. Of course, we maintain our regular policy of supplying genuine rubber tyres.
