engraved detail, and seats added to build

Post by Jeffrey Goff » Mon Mar 17, 2008 7:33 pm

just an update on the 88, I have added some engraved details to the breech block and barrel, this looks a bit smudged as I rubbed some talc into the letters to make it stand out, seats have also been added, and I used an action figure to check the height and size, the folding seat is a bit fiddly to get a working catch on the foot-bar, I need to re-work the indicator dials, and wire them up before I start on the other side, with the fuse setter.

Very nice work Jeff, once again I take my hat off to you You certainly have a steady hand. How did you get the engraving so neat?

Hi Colin, not a steady hand, just a big German engraving machine; I bought a copy of the US war department technical manual No E9-369A on the 88 and this had pictures of the markings found on various parts of the gun, that you can not see on any of the pictures that I had, so I added them where I could, it also gave much clearer pictures of the indicators, that is why I shall be remaking them, have you started on your 88 yet

Hi Jeff,
yes I have started the 88. I'm still working on the cruciform. I'll post some photos when I have enough available. I'm just building the storage bin between the legs of the cruciform, I've faked the electrical box and pipe work and will see what they look like after painting. The're not accurate dimensionally but look OK.
