Re: Chieftain build by Phil Woollard.

Hi Phil, Chieftain did not have fuel tanks per say, they were part of the panniers with flexible fuel bags inside bolted in and held in position by clips, each compartment had a bag and these were interlinked with balance pipes to the base tank, the only separate fuel tanks were the base tanks for t...

Re: blank firer, Advice please

To John Clarke, on your note of smoke from the hatches when the gun is fired, the KT did not have a fume extractor on its barrel, if the wind was blowing in the direction of the barrel and another round was not loaded straight away this was normal as it was with a lot of tanks of its time, in a lot ...

Re: blank firer, Advice please

Hi Gents, thanks for all the replies. I am fully aware that i can not use any recoil system with a blank firer fitted and it must be fitted with a pepperpot to stop any wadding being ejected, i would not expect i would use it on any real regular basis but would be nice to have the option for effect....

Re: Painting Armortek Models / Alu

Hi Guys, advice wanted, would it be better to use stone chip paint on the underside and sponsons/ running gear of a model or is this not needed, just thinking it might give a bit more protection when running the model. any advice for and against willingly taken from those who know better (everyone o...

Re: Chieftain Stuff

Hi Guys, when i was in, pull up the sandbag moment here, the BV was used to heat water or heat tins/pouches of food in the water, my normal practice was at each stop to make a brew for the crew from the thermos flasks and then refill the flasks with the boiling water from the BV, doing this meant th...

Re: Milling Machine

Hi Greg, i agree with what most of the guys have said, think what size you need and then buy bigger so it can really do what you want it to, the most important bit of this is a bigger machine will be more rigid and be less prone to flexing in use, yes even with massive cast parts this can and does h...

Re: Chieftain info and banter

Hi Mark, i would suggest that the fitters got 1B1T just like the rest of the Squadron, it would not make sense to demand different mixes on an ammo replen, as you roll through you just said how much of each nature you needed and it was passed across, it would cause hold ups if you had to look for di...

Re: Chieftain info and banter

Hi Gents, on tanks (CH, CR, CR2) the MG ammo was 1BIT (1 ball 1 tracer) and was used for all the machine guns on board, it came in two hundred round belts and was linked together to fill the ready round bins on each, one reason for the 1 in 1 mix was for better targeting and the other was so when In...

Re: Chieftain kit arrival

Sorry Bro,
if you look into Euro trade rules you will find that enterprises can diverge, all UPS vehicles can be found centered on a Wolfgang approx 70km from your location just like real Chieftains, who said Armortek did not do the best to add realism.

Cheers

Re: Spanners and other stuff you could put in the tool boxes

Hi Mark, i disagree, without REME support how long could a unit last, even foot mounted inf need resupply which requires vehicles, heavy units more so, if it was not for the support arms the teeth arms could not operate, it was all a team effort, ok you did not have to squeeze a trigger, but without...

Re: Spanners and other stuff you could put in the tool boxes

Hi John C, Ref myth of shooting at tanks. on Batus it was not unknown for some grunts with a jimpy turret on their 432 to brass up the back of the tanks thinking they were having a laugh which it was not, i was the gunner on a Chieftain and the OC,s tank had broken down and he taken ours to continue...

Re: Logistics!

Gents, to help with grip on ramps i can recommend of all things, skateboard deck tape, its very grippy, a bit like course emery tape, it has a good glue backing (self adhesive) and its water proof and lasts well. That,s if you can bring yourself to enter a skater place and be served by a guy who,s t...

Re: Spanners and other stuff you could put in the tool boxes

Hi Mark, please note i said when a CREWMAN HAD SCREWED UP and broken something it was crate time, not the wagon had broken, when something goes wrong as they do it was normal form to report to the fault to the fitters with as much detail as possible and they would swing in to play to fix it, woo bet...
